Visions of Grange

Due to the closure of the Grange-over-Sands youth group some years ago, the question of how to use the remaining funds soon arose. When the club was active, one of their repeating projects would be to work with creative organisations to design and create a public mural in the well known bus shelter in Pig Lane. Otherwise known as ‘The Pig-Hut’, it was also used by teenagers as a local hangout spot in the evenings. As this project was always successful and that the old mural needed redoing, It was decided that the remaining funds would be put towards creating one final mural as a gift to Grange-over-Sands from the youth group.

Inspiration for the design was taken from various elements, landmarks and natural beauty from around the Edwardian town. It identifies both the seaside and the rolling fields that travel over the fell, ducks from the duck pond, intricate ironwork laced through the town, historical elements such as the boats, fish and pigs from the piggery and notorious landmarks such as the clock tower and bandstand.
Not only this, but the design also pays a small homage to some features from previous murals, such as; the sun from the first mural, 'Olivia sitting' from the second, and the pigs from the third.

Lastly a personal message is displayed through the subtle imagery of the 'Black Lives Matter' logo on the ironwork of the bandstand and the addition of LGBTQ+ in small letters on one of the boats.
